About the Vocational Training Centre

The idea for the Vocational Training Centre was born out of a heartfelt need to empower and prepare the children of the Sikizana Rescue Centre for life beyond our protective walls. As an organisation deeply rooted in the village and committed to the well-being of orphaned and vulnerable children, we witnessed firsthand the challenges these young individuals face when they step out into the world. Many lacked the practical skills needed for survival and self-reliance, which inspired the creation of a structured program that equips them with vocational and life skills.

The inspiration for the centre came from observing the children's immense potential, creativity, and resilience. Despite their difficult beginnings, they possessed an incredible capacity for learning and growth. The initiative was envisioned as a bridge between their time at the rescue centre and a future of independence, offering them tools to not only survive but thrive.

The village setting further influenced the design of the programme. By leveraging locally available resources and focusing on practical skills such as garment making, digital literacy, hairdressing, cookery, and other crafts, the centre connects the children to their roots while preparing them for broader opportunities.

Ultimately, the Vocational Training Centre reflects the core mission of Sikizana Trust: to nurture, empower, and inspire young lives. It stands as a beacon of hope, providing these children with not just skills but also the confidence and dignity to build brighter futures.
